Taking no 'wrist' The Barbados Nation - 6 May 1999 The West Indies cricketers showed themselves yesterday all prepared for the seventh World Cup in England. Under the watchful eye of coach Malcolm Marshall, the Windies had an extensive training session at the Gloucestershire County Cricket Club in Bristol. Captain Brian Lara turned up in training gear with his right wrist bandaged but did not practise, still playing it safe ahead of the May 14 to June 20 competition. Lara is expected to miss the team’s three warm-up matches against county sides Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and Surrey. But he ought to be fit for the opening encounter on May 16 against Pakistan at Bristol. The West Indies, on a wave after their revival against Australia, will be hoping to win the title for a record third time. Their last title was way back in 1979, also in England.
