- It was the 18th match between the two sides on Indian soil.The
record now reads: India 13,New Zealand 3.
- It was the ninth match on this ground - sixth for India and second
for New Zealand.
- Umpires SK Bansal was officiating in his 24th match.With this he
equalled RB Gupta's tally of 24 matches. Now only VK Ramaswamy (39)
and S Venkataraghavan (28) among Indians have officiated in more
matches than Bansal.For Shekhar Chouhury it was ninth match as
umpire.
- Thirunavukkarasu Kumaran was making his ODI debut.He became the
126th player to appear for India in ODIs.He got a wicket off his
seventh ball in ODIs.
- Sunil Joshi was playing in his 50th match.He became the 27th Indian
and 208th player to do so.
- The 96 run partenrship between Roger Twose and Chris Cairns was New
Zealand?s best against India in India.This obliterated the previous
record stand of 79 runs between Adam Parore and Stephen Fleming at
Delhi on 03-11-1994.
- Adam Parore was run out for the 15th time in his career (fifth time
against India).He now holds the dubious distinction of getting out in
this fashion on most occasions for New Zealand.He was previously at
level with Jeremy Coney and John Wright.Chris Cairns with 13 such
dismissals is just behind him.
- Joshi made his first fifty in ODIs.His previous highest was 48
against Australia at Colombo SSC on 06-09-1996 in his second match
and first innings.
- Joshi's innings is the highest by any Indian batsman at No 8. He
bettered Kapil Dev's 60 against England at Leeds on 02-06-1982.
- This is also the highest score by any batsman in ODIs at this
position against New Zealand.The previous highest was Ken MacLeay's
41 for Australia at Sydney on 17-03-1983.
- Chris Cairns won the Man of the Match award for the sixth time in
his career.
