Quaid-i-Azam Trophy: Karachi Whites trounce Hyderabad by an innings 16 November 1999
Karachi, Nov 15: Karachi Whites recorded their first victory in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship when they trounced Hyderabad by an innings and 10 runs at the National Stadium here on Monday. The home side finished off the Hyderabad's second innings 45 minutes after tea on the penultimate day of the four-day encounter. This was Hyderabad's fifth loss on the trot this season. Final scores: Hyderabad 159 and 208; Karachi Whites 377 for three declared. Resuming at the overnight score of 31 for two, Hyderabad mustered another 177 on Monday with young Karachi pacer Shiraz Hyder taking a career-best five for 68. Ijaz Shah top-scored for the visitors with a polished 69 off 177 deliveries before he played a reckless stroke against Shiraz and was caught in the covers by Kamran Hussain. His four-hour innings included five fours. The other notable scorer was regular opener Ayaz Taifi, who batted at No 7 in the second innings after he had sprained his ankle while fielding on Sunday. He struck 42 today to follow his 57 in the first innings. Ayaz's 142-minute innings off 97 balls was laced with six fours and a six before he became one of Shiraz's three victims in nine balls. Shiraz received good support from his pace partner Haider Ali who picked up two for 57 and skipper Suleman Huda who chipped in with two for 28. The victory earned Karachi Whites, who travel to Bahawalpur for their next game, 12 points which lift them into joint third place with several teams
