Leicestershire County Cricket Club is pleased to announce that First Class Cricket will return to Oakham School for the first time in 60 years when the 1998 County Champions Leicestershire will host the 1999 County Champions Surrey in the PPP Healthcare County Championship. The match will be played on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday July 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th, 2000. The County Club and the school have recently launched a scholarship programme and the first Cricket Scholar, 15-year-old Paul Cook, will commence at Oakham School in September under the guidance of the school’s Director of Cricket, former Lancashire and England batsman Frank Hayes. Leicestershire Chief Executive David Collier commented: “Oakham School provides some of the best pitches and facilities in the country. The County Club has a great deal of support in the Melton and Rutland area and we are also hoping that in addition to our regular followers in Leicestershire that cricket supporters in Lincolnshire, Stamford and Peterborough will enjoy the opportunity of watching first-class cricket in Oakham.” For further details please contact: David Collier 0116 2832128
