Mudgal's century highlights UP's victory

New Delhi: A breeezy 100 off 104 balls by opener M.Mudgal helped Uttar Pradesh to defeat Railways by three wickets in a high scoring Central Zone Ranji one day match at the Karnail Singh stadium here yesterday.

Batting first Railways hit 278 for five in 50 overs. Openers S.Bangar (51) and H.Bajwa (38) put on 56 runs in only 8.3 overs. But the real substance of the innings was provided by Y. Goud and skipper PS Rawat who each scored 62 and added 111 runs for the fourth wicket off 21.2 overs.

UP were also off to a good start with Mudgal and Jyoti Yadav putting on 54 runs off just seven overs. Mudgal and skipper GK Pandey (38) added 100 runs for the third wicket off 20.2 overs to give the scoring rate an impetus. Mudgal was fourth out at 201 in the 38th over. He hit eleven boundaries. Later a bright unbeaten 27 off 19 balls by M Saif who hit two fours and a six saw UP home with one ball to spare.
