Jammu & Kashmir stun Delhi Madhu Sanghi - 20 November 1999
New Delhi: Skipper Kavaljeet Singh struck a fine half century as minnows Jammu Kashmir stunned Delhi by three wickets with just two balls to spare in the last North Zone one day league match here yesterday. Kavaljeet's 73-ball knock which included four hits to the fence helped J & K reach 238 for seven after restricting formidable Delhi to 237 for six in 50 overs at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground. Ashwani Gupta, Ranjit Bali and Amit Pal Singh contributed 41,36 and 29 runs respectively for the visitors who registered their second one day win against Delhi. In the end it was a battle of nerves for the two teams as J & K needed six runs in the last over, which they achieved with two balls to spare. A haul of four for 38 by India off spinner Nikhil Chopra went in vain. Delhi, however, had already qualified for the Wills Trophy having won four matches in the six team zone. For Delhi the major contribution came from Mithun Manhas who made 90 runs off 100 balls with the help of five fours. Skipper Ajay Sharma too chipped in with 63 runs and together they added 121 runs for the fourth wicket. © CricInfo
