The Barbados Nation Banks built on Lorde
Philip Hackett - 22 November 1999

Banks 194-8 v Pickwick

Led by a disciplined half-century from Stephen Lorde, Banks batted all day after being put in on a slow, rain-affected pitch yesterday.

Coming to the crease in the second over after Sean Armstrong fell victim to Hendy Bryan, Lorde batted 147 minutes for a well-played 54.

He struck eight fours and faced 90 deliveries, most of them in partnerships with Michael Maynard and Richard Carter with whom he shared half-century stands.

Maynard stroked six delightful fours and clouted E.S.A Field Pickwick?s Irvin Armstrong for two sixes over long-on, on the way to an enterprising 46. He became Bryan?s second victim after putting on 74 for the second wicket with Lorde.

Carter was equally aggressive, his 47 including three sixes and three fours and coming off 40 balls in 66 minutes. He dominated a third-wicket stand of 68 with Lorde.

The dismissal of Carter, caught on the mid-wicket boundary by Kirk Cyrus off medium-pacer Ricky Clarke, triggered a collapse in which three wickets fell for six runs in the space of seven deliveries.

Chris Humphrey conceded more than five runs per over but had satisfying returns of four for 69. Bryan (two for 37) and Clarke (two for 27) were the other wicket takers
