Yorkshire Schools Cricket Association Presentations

Yorkshire Schools Cricket Association celebrated a very successful season at their annual Presentation Evening held at Elland on Friday night with Geoff Cope (Yorkshire and England) as the chief guest. The County team were winners of the ESCA Lord’s Taveners County Championship (U15) for the third time in six years beating Warwickshire and Somerset in the finals at Oundle School. Seven boys gained England Honours during the season, and Joe Sayers was Captain of the England side whilst County Captain Andrew Gale recorded three unbeaten centuries.

Seven of the team were under 14 and will therefore be eligible for next year.

Awards were as follows:

U15 Batting: Joe Sayers (St Mary’s, Menston) 509 runs @ 101.8

U15 Bowling: Dan Broadbent (Ryedale, York) 31 wkts

U15 Chairman’s Award: Chris Gilbert (Scarborough College) 207 runs 23 wkts

U15 Captain’s Award: Andrew Gale (Whitcliffe Mount, Cleckheaton) led from the front with 131 not v Somerset, 115 not v Lancashire,133 not for ESCA Presidents XI

U15 Fielding: Tabassum Bhatti (Beckfoot GS, Bingley) 419 runs and 25 wkts

U15 (2nd XI) Batting: Craig Wood (Silcoates, Wakefield)

U15 (2nd XI) Bowling: David Brown (Royds School, Methley)

U15 (2nd XI) Captain: Tom Fletcher (The Kingston School, Barnsley)

U14 Player of the Year: Tim Bresnan (Castleford High)

U13 Player of the Year: Nick Page (Armthorpe School, Doncaster)

England U15: Andrew Gale (Whitcliffe Mount, Cleckheaton) Honours: Chris Gilbert (Scarborough College), Joe Sayers (St Mary’s School, Menston) – became the 6th Yorkshire boy to Captain England

England U14 James Chervak (Ashville College, Harrogate) Honours: Paul Cummins (Oakwood School, Rotherham) David Stiff (Batley Grammar School)

England ‘A’ U15: Tabassum Bhatti (Beckfoot Grammar School, Batley)

North of England U15: Ian McGrann (Read School, Drax, Selby)
