Honours even on opening day
27 November 1999
Rajasthan were 273-9 at stumps on Day 1 of their league match against Uttar Pradesh at the Sports Stadium in Meerut today. After Rajasthan were put in to bat, opener Anshu Jain held the innings together with a fighting 90 (163 balls, 12 fours). He was involved in a 4th wicket stand of 96 with captain PK Krishnakumar (56). But Rajasthan failed to consolidate thereafter and following Jain's departure at 175, 3 more wickets tumbled for 13 runs. It was left to Sanjeev Sharma to shore up the latter part of the innings with a timely undefeated 68. Musi Raza and Pankaj Tiwari did most of the damage for UP, taking 4-71 and 3-80 respectively.
