Warriors home to play Tasmania Western Australia Cricket Association - 19 October 1999
The Western Warriors welcome back three Australian tourists for their next Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania, starting at the WACA on Friday, October 22, 1999. Justin Langer, Matthew Nicholson and Simon Katich arrive home from Zimbabwe at noon tomorrow, Wednesday, October 20. Langer and Katich have been touring Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for six weeks, while Nicholson flew to Zimbabwe on October 5 as a replacement for Scott Muller in the Australian squad. Langer scored 51 runs (at 12.75) in three Tests in Sri Lanka and 44 in the one-off Test match in Zimbabwe. With Steve Waugh hospitalised with a broken nose, Katich was called into the Australian line-up for a tour match in Colombo, impressing with scores of 40 and 36 not out. He then contracted chicken pox. Nicholson played a tour match in Bulawayo, returning figues of 0-56 and 0-8. All three have been included in a WA squad of 13 to take on the Tigers, along with 10 of the 12 Warriors who guided WA to first innings points against Victoria.
