Dawn Haris Khan puts Customs in sight of victory
19 October 1999

Karachi, Oct 18: Off-spinner Haris Khan bowled Pakistan Customs in sight of victory over Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) with a five-wicket haul in the four-day Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Grade-I match at the Defence Stadium on Monday.

Haris captured five for 48 as PNSC were sent packing for 164 in reply to Customs 430. Forced to follow-on, the shipmen had reached 35 for no loss at the draw of stumps on the penultimate day.

PNSC are still 231 runs in arrears and face an uphill task of playing out the entire final day's play on Tuesday.

It was Haris Khan's brilliance which saw PNSC suffer a sensational collapse. PNSC lost their last nine wickets for just 77 runs with seven wickets falling in the second session of play.

PNSC's blushes were saved by the last wicket stand of 27 between Mutahir Shah and Mohtashim Rasheed who carried the score from 137 for nine before Mohtashim became Haris Khan's fifth and final victim at the score of 164.

PNSC were smoothly cruising at 87 for one before Haris dealt his first blow to dismiss Shahid Kamrani. It was then only Haris Khan as the lanky bowler extracted great support from an otherwise batting track.

For the shipmen, discarded Test batsman Mohammad Ramazan batted with admirable courage and determination to score 62. His 160-minute innings included eight boundaries from 109 balls.

Together with Shahid Kamrani (20), Ramazan put on 48 runs for the second wicket before the PNSC batting fell like a pack of cards against Haris Khan.
