Dawn PCB's indifference cause of embarrassment
23 October 1999

Karachi, Oct 22: The selection of Shabbir Ahmad for the tour of Australia and his withdrawal 48 hours later once again proves how casually the sport is being run by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ad hoc committee.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had communicated the decision of its advisory panel on illegal deliveries on Wednesday, the day the team was announced from Sharjah by the selectors and approved by the ad hoc committee as claimed by Javed Zaman.

But what surprises one is that if the ICC had informed the PCB not to select Shabbir Ahmad, why it didn't communicate the ICC action to selectors in Sharjah which could have saved the youngster from facing humiliation and embarrassment.

Moreover, having come to know of the ICC decision why PCB approved the name of Shabbir even if it failed to communicate the same to the selectors.

The other interesting point to note is that Peter van de Merwe had reported about the suspect bowling action of Shabbir Ahmad during the Toronto series where he was the Match Referee.

The question to be asked from the ICC why it communicated the decision four weeks after the conclusion of the series and why was Shabbir Ahmad allowed to be selected for the Sharjah tournament?
