Haryana force J & K to follow on
Madhu Sanghi - 27 October 1999

Faridabad: Hostile bowling spells by Vineet Jain (4 for 79) and Manish (3 for 58) enabled Haryana to enforce the follow on against Jammu and Kashmir on the third day of their North Zone Ranji Trophy match here on Tuesday. J & K were all out for 242 runs, finishing 228 runs in arrears.

J & K resumed at 93 for one. Overnight batsman Ranjit Bali who was 44 added only one run to his score before he was bowled by Vineet Jain's inswinger. After his departure, Vineet and Manish struck at regular intervals. Off-spinner Pankaj Thakur captured two wickets for 42 runs.

Kanvaljit Singh (62) played a gallant knock to carry the J & K total to respectibility. He faced 214 balls and batted for 273 minutes before being bowled by Manish. The batsmen who followed could not add much to the total. Haryana claimed the second new ball after 84.1 overs at 163 for four. The decision proved to be successful as the remaining six wickets fell for 79 runs.

Following on, J & K started their second innings badly as they lost their consistent opening batsman Ranjit Bali (0) in the third over bowled by Vineet Jain. At close of play, they were five for one in four overs.
