Dawn Ashar misses century by two runs

Islamabad, Oct26: Islamabad avoided follow-on but it's bright left-arm opener Ashar Zaidi missed his maiden first-class century by mere two runs owing to a mix-up that led to his run out against Sargodha in the pool-B match that ended in a meek draw at CRA ground on Tuesday.

Islamabad required 108 runs to avoid follow-on when play resumed on the fourth and last day with hosts struggling at 194 for 5. Opener Ashar Zaidi unbeaten at 69 and Amjad Aziz (1) resumed the innings. Sargodha's pacer Ahmed Hayat who was the key demolisher having taken four wickets, removed two more Islamabad batsmen to acquire figures of 6 for 74.

Islamabad were still 57 runs behind when Ashar fell victim to a mix-up while taking a single and was run out leaving his team reeling at 246 for 8. Islamabad's last two wickets added 67 runs with all rounder Rauf Akbar remaining unbeaten with a brilliant knock of 52.

Sargodha piled up 105 for 3 in their second innings till end of play with Tanvir Hussain (46) and Misbahul Haq (36).
