West Indies Local Cricket: Win puts Spartan in second place Ancille Inniss - 6 September 1999
Spartan (170 and 135-2) beat Schools North (104 and 118) by 83 runs Offspinner Aaron Barker and left-armer Sulieman Benn shared nine wickets between them as Spartan made light of Schools North. It was their second successive victory as they moved into second place in the standings. Spartan added 43 in six overs to their overweek 92 for two as Wayne Blackman and Livy Puckerin remained unbeaten on 50 and 54, respectively, before the declaration. It was Puckerin's second half-century of the match and fifth of the season to take him to 472 runs. The target of 202 in 51 overs proved well beyond the Schools as Barker (five for 63) and Benn (four for 29) proved too much. The lanky Benn now has 33 wickets for the year. Barker was introduced after the seventh over at 20 without loss and immediately made his presence felt. He removed both openers with Jason Collins leg before playing back and Jason Parris caught at long-off. The procession didn't stop although Schools captain and topscorer Ryan Hinds made 32 before he became a Barker victim.
