• Saurav Ganguly was captaining India for the first time in his career in his 112th match. He became 15th player to lead India in a ODI.
• Ganguly became fourth Indian and 15th player to captain his side for the first time after making 100 or more appearances. • Wavell Hinds was making his ODI debut. He became 95th player to make an ODI appearance for West Indies.
• Ridley Jacobs became second West Indian to be dismissed off very first ball of the match after Philo Wallace who has got this dubious distinction on two separate occasions. It was also the first time that a batsman got out to the first ball of the match against India.
• Brian Lara scored 50 plus runs in an innings for the 50th time in his career. He became third West Indian after Desmond Haynes (74) and Viv Richards (56) to score 50 or more 50 plus runs (including hundreds) in a career.
• Sadagoppan Ramesh became first Indian to get a wicket off first ball in ODI career (victim : Nixon McLean). Overall it was the tenth occasion of an Indian getting a wicket in first over in ODIs.
• Debasish Mohanty's figures (6-0-53-3) are the most expensive for any bowler in a six over spell against West Indies. The previous record was held by England's David Capel (6-0-52-1, at Bridgetown on 03 April 1990) and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi (6-0-52-0, at Perth on 10 January 1997).
• Wavell Hinds became the second West Indian to get a wicket off first ball in ODI career (victim Mannava Prasad) after Clive Lloyd (who dismissed England's Mike Smith at The Oval on 07 September 1973. Overall it was seventh instance of a West Indian bowler getting a wicket in his first over in ODIs.
• Ridley Jacobs, when dismissed Ganguly, completed his 50 dismissals in ODIs. He became third West Indian(after Jeff Dujon and Junior Murray )and the 19th keeper in ODIs to complete 50 dismissals. By doing so in his 30th match, Jacobs became the quickest to reach this milestone. India's Nayan Mongia and South Africa's Dave Richardson were the previous record holder as they took 33 matches each to accomplish this feat.
• Brian Lara won MoM award for the 22nd time in his career.
