Media Release - Maher to captain Qld
Queensland Cricket - 13 September 1999

XXXX Queensland Bulls opening batsman Jimmy Maher will lead Queensland in two trial matches against the NSW Blues at Buderim on Friday and Sunday.

Maher, who led Country to a win over City in Townsville last weekend, was today named as captain for the two One Day matches against the Blues.

The Queensland Academy of Sport will also play NSW in a match on Thursday at Buderim.

Sunday's match will feature the return of batsmen Martin Love, who spent the winter playing for Weybridge in the Surrey League in England and Clinton Perren, who played Central Lancashire League, as well as pace bowler Matthew Pascoe who played in the Lancashire League.

Left-hand batsman Lee Carseldine will miss the QAS and Friday march after suffering a thigh injury in the Townsville match. His absence provides chances for Wests opener Lee Dalton (QAS) and Toowoomba batsman Brian May (Qld XI, Fri). The NSW team will be captained by Michael Bevan and includes promising ACT duo Brad Haddin and Mark Higgs.
