England Squad for 5th Cornhill Test v West Indies ECB Media Release - 27 August 2000
England today named a squad of 12 players for next week's 5th Cornhill Test Match against West Indies at The Foster's Oval. (August 31-Sept 4) The Warwickshire left-arm spinner Ashley Giles, who has taken 52 wickets and scored two hundreds in First Class cricket this summer, is added to the eleven who won the 4th Test at Headingley. Announcing the squad, Chairman of Selectors, David Graveney said: "Our discussions for this match centred on the slow bowling position. Ashley Giles has had a good County season as has Phil Tufnell, but Ashley's all-round qualities swung the decision in his favour." "At this stage, we haven't definitely decided to play a spinner at The Oval and we will not make a decision on our final eleven until we have assessed the pitch and the weather conditions."
