Prince Edward School Report, 2000
K Saich - 1 December 2000

The Prince Edward First Eleven has had another, seemingly, dismal year if "Wins/Losses" are the sole measurement. If, however, the performances of individuals are looked at, specifically, then there is much to be proud of. Ryan Butterworth's opening 133 against Peterhouse was the epitome of bowler-destruction! Opening bowler Tarisai Savanhu got quicker and quicker, regularly knocked over early order opponents, and had over 30 catches spilled! Tiny Quincy Antipas regularly took wickets and made positive runs. Stanley Chioza became the all-rounder of class we had always hoped he would be. Butterworth became increasingly astute with the ball and Neethan Chouhan attained 60% of his undoubted potential with bat and ball. Robert Chifokoyo revealed outstanding keeping and early-order batting skills. Mathew Mallet showed his natural athleticism as a scrum-half could effectively be transferred into prowess with bat and ball. Simon Phillips discovered he really could bat and bowl and Conan Brewer never gave up his energetic enthusiasm though the world seemed to have crashed about him.

So why did they do so seemingly badly? Simply because they dropped catches with regular monotony and seldom came off in real stands with the bat - impetuousness just when looking good! "Hokoyo" to all opponents in 2001!

Junior Names to keep an eye on....

U14 Layard: excellent batting promise. Several centuries! Kona and Chitiyo: Bowling potential realizing excellent performances with five- and six-wicket hauls.

U15 Galiao: Superb potential. Best of 222! Watch him! Cremer: Leg spinner with amazing accuracy. All rounder. Penney: Fierce lover of the game. Batsman.

U16 Biggs: Quick Bowler. Made Zimbabwe Under-16. Good bat. Barton: Great timer of the Ball will be a force, can also bowl "clever" off-spin! Chidyausiku: "Quickie" and an all-rounder.

All through the competent hands of Messrs. K.Saich, N.Hamilton-Browne and P.Bourdillon.

Final Note: A pleasure to announce Mr P.Bourdillon will be assuming the role of First XI Coach in the New Year.
