Great to play in front of a crowd on a hot Christchurch day Katrina Keenan - 7 December 2000
Wednesday 6 December It was a wickedly hot day today in Christchurch. Temperatures were soaring and a huge crowd turned out to watch the match. There were school kids for miles and lots of requests for autographs, which was fun, as we do not always get the opportunity to interact with a big crowd. New Zealand Cricket has gone to great lengths to arrange free buses to the games for schools in Christchurch. This initiative has provided youngsters with the opportunity to not only watch the cricket but to also meet the players and have some fun designing banners for which they can win prizes. Canterbury Cricket also organised coaching sessions for all the school children today and this was really well received. We had a comprehensive win over the Netherlands. Chasing a total of 80 we reached this in the 16th over. Paula Flannery again in good form with the bat and Dot was at her most miserly best – ever - bowling 10 overs for just 3 runs – what!!!!!!!!! We have just finished our team debrief and will probably be keeping a pretty low profile for the remainder of the evening. However, tomorrow night the social committee has organised a movie nite in Pavilion 1 – the real thing. We have ushers with real torches - a seating plan, tickets (professionally printed), ice cream - in a cone, pop corn, soda pop – and of course a movie. So whilst tonight is a little low key after a hot day in the field, tomorrow is sure to be entertaining.
