South American Cricket Championships 2000, Day 2 Report Grant Dugmore - 9 December 2000
Argentina 'A' beat Brazil by 47 runs. A brilliant undefeated 115 from man of the match Matt Featherstone was not enough to deny a determined Argentina 'A' side a deserved victory at Lomas. The Argentines rattled up 259 for the loss of 8 wickets, of which Murray Davis (73) and Malcolm Van Steeden (68) were the prime contributors. Brazil fell short of the target despite Featherstone's efforts, ending with 212 for 2 after their 40 overs, with a superb spell of 1 for 13 in 8 overs from Gerben Zwaga probably doing the bulk of the damage. Peru beat Venezuela by 49 runs. Peru batted first and finished on a strong 243 for 8 in their allotted 40 overs. Hildebrand with 76 and Forbes with 61 were the main contributors. In reply, Venezuela reached 194 before being all out, with good bowling from man of the match Chris Forbes (3-22) and Bashani (3-24), with Basil Mathura making a fine 83 for Venezuela. Panama beat Guyana Masters by 117 runs. Dark horses Panama showed their strength and intent with a comprehensive win over Guyana Masters at Pinazo. Their total of 268 for 7, thanks to Ahir (59), Patel (56) and Bhakta (55) was too much for the Caribbean Masters, who totalled 151 in reply, with Scott topscoring with 31. Pick of the Panama bowlers was A.Patel with 3 for 23.
