One Associate and eight Affiliate applications to be considered at AGM
16 June 2000

The Cayman Islands is expected to be confirmed as the 26th Associate member of the International Cricket Council later this month.

Caymans' application will be proposed by the West Indies Cricket Board of Control and supported by the four Associate countries in the region, Canada, the United States, Bermuda and Argentina.

It was the only ICC Affiliate member in the Americas region to be included in next month's Americas Cup and involved in the recent ICC Americas Forum.

Despite its likely elevation, the Cayman Islands will not compete in next year's ICC Trophy in Canada.

The June 26 meeting will also assess applications from eight countries for Affiliate membership.

The Cook Islands, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Oman, the Philippines, Samoa and Tonga are expected to have Affiliate membership applications approved.

With the West Indies, East Africa and West Africa counted as single entities, ICC membership will stand at 63 after the ICC meeting.

The number of individual countries who will have ICC membership through either stand alone status or under an 'umbrella' grouping is 77. Numerically, cricket will qualify as an Olympic sport.
