Zimbabwe U-16 Report
Mike Whiley - 24 November 2000

In mid-October 48 boys gathered at St John’s College for the national trials held as an inter-provincial competition that was won by Mashonaland. At the end of two days the following were selected to travel to Port Elizabeth in December:

Luke Perigoe (captain) - St George’s
David Crouch (vice-captain) - Falcon
Sean Barry - St George’s
Jason Biggs - Prince Edward
Duncan Bradshaw - St John’s
*James Cameron - St George’s
*Colin de Grandhomme - St George’s
*Iain de Grandhomme - St George’s
Gee Dhlamini - CBC
Stanley Marisa - Falcon
*Tino Mawoyo - Hillcrest
Tinashe Ruswa - Churchill
*Brendon Taylor - St John’s

The team is younger than normal as five players, as indicated (*), are under 15. The most talented batsmen are Perigoe, Cameron, Barry, Colin de Grandhomme and Taylor. We have three good spinners - Ruswa (off), Iain de Grandhomme (leg) and Marisa (left-arm) - who will be backed by Perigoe and Cameron. Bradshaw and Biggs will open the bowling, backed by Dhlamini and Barry. Crouch is the number one keeper, with support from Taylor.

We hope for a good tour, and with Raymond Price (Zimbabwe A) as coach the boys will be well motivated.
