Dawn Malik's reply rejected
2 October 2000

Karachi, Oct 1: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rejected former captain Salim Malik's reply to the show-cause notice for the second time in less than a month.

A spokesman of the PCB said from Lahore that Malik's reply was rejected on the ground that bears no relevance to the terms of the punishment. Either he should indicate that he accepts the punishment or wants to challenge the life ban and the fine.

The PCB had taken a similar line when it rejected Malik's reply. The PCB has now written Malik to be specific and clear otherwise the board would take the reply as acceptance of ban imposed on the recommendation of Justice Malik Mohammad Qayyum.

The PCB also rejected the reply of former paceman Ata-ur-Rehman who was also banned for life and fined Rs 100,000.

Meanwhile, Wasim Akram filed an appeal against the fine of Rs 300,000 on Saturday. His legal advisor Shahid Hamid said he has filed an appeal which is supported by a reply to the showcause notice.

Nevertheless, the PCB in a press statement, said on Sunday that it has extended the deadline of Saturday to Wednesday on the request of the players.
