Hyderabad make a splendid recovery Partab Ramchand - 2 October 2000
After losing their first four wickets for 68 runs, Hyderabad made a splendid recovery to finish at 239 for five at stumps on the first day of their South Zone Cooch Behar Trophy (under-19) match against Karnataka at the M Chinnaswamy stadium on Monday. Karnataka opening bowler Steve Lazarus gave the hosts a fine start by taking three wickets in his opening spell. In his third over, he had T Suman caught behind by Vinay Uthappa for 19 in a score of 20. In his sixth over, he bowled Imran Mohammad for two when the score was 30. And in his following over he had AT Rayudu caught behind for a duck. when the score was 32. Opener Shashank Nag and Arjun Yadav seemed to be turning things around for Hyderabad when the latter was caught by Vamsy Krishna off Kirthi Bhat for 26 when the score was 68. Howevever Nag held on and with Ibrahim Khaleed shared a 99-run partnership for the fifth wicket off 40.3 overs before Nag was finally bowled by Kirthi Bhat for 74.
