Reiffel to skipper Bushrangers
Victorian Cricket Association - 4 October 2000
The Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Cricket Association, Mr. Ken Jacobs, today announced that the VCA Board have reappointed Paul Reiffel as Captain of the Victorian Bushrangers for season 2000/2001. Darren Berry was reappointed as Vice-Captain.
The appointments follow a recommendation to the Board by the State selectors, with the positions being confirmed at the VCA Board meeting Monday night.
Reiffel was delighted with his reappointment, stating he was looking forward to leading the Bushrangers into the coming season and building upon last season's efforts. "The team made significant progress last season in the Pura Cup, however we realise that Queensland are the yardstick and we still have to make up some ground to match them. I'm looking forward to that challenge with Darren Berry and all of the Bushrangers squad."
Bushrangers coach John Scholes endorsed the reappointment. "The Captaincy of the Victorian Bushrangers is one of high prestige in Victorian sport. The role sits very well with a person of Paul Reiffel's qualities. As he has grown into the job, he has won the respect of teammates and opponents alike for his leadership and strength of character."
The Victorian Bushrangers first match is a Mercantile Mutual Cup clash against the NSW Blues at North Sydney Oval, on Sunday October 15.
