The UCB's General Council has appointed Gerald Majola Chief Executive of the UCBSA
Bronwyn Wilkinson - 5 October 2000

The President of the United Cricket Board of South Africa, Adv Percy Sonn announced today that the UCB's General Council has unanimously appointed Gerald Majola Chief Executive of the UCB with effect from early January 2001.

"Many excellent candidates were considered for the position, but Mr Majola won the Council's support though his history as a cricketing man and his experience in the administration of South African cricket," said Adv Sonn.

Together with the General Council, Mr Majola will be responsible for the running of South African cricket. From early January 2001 the UCB's present Managing Director, Dr Ali Bacher, will assume the full responsibilities of Director of Cricket World Cup 2003.

"I am honoured to accept this position. I have every confidence in the future of South African cricket and am excited about representing all South Africans in our common drive to take South African cricket forward," said Mr Majola.

Dr Ali Bacher said: "I have absolute confidence that Gerald will do South African cricket proud and he knows that he has my full support. I know, too, that he will steer cricket's transformation in the right direction, without lowering its high standards."
