Leeward Islands trials underway
Zach Kenworthy - 4 October 2000

The Leeward Islands cricket trials/training camp got underway this past Tuesday at the Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts. Members of the 22-man squad will undergo rigorous fitness and skill training and will compete against each other in a couple practice/ trial matches. Manager, Carlisle Powell announced this Wednesday that two trial matches will be played on Thursday and one on Saturday, after which the first fourteen will be picked by selectors Luther Kelly of St. Kitts, Alkins Rogers of Anguilla and Antiguan and team coach John Archibald.

The team will be bolstered by the early return of West Indies’ selectees; Sylvester Joseph and Kerry Jeremy after the West Indies’ disappointing loss against Sri Lanka in the ICC Trophy Knockout. Both will be considered for selection as well as Anguillians Alex Adams and Omari Banks who both will be hoping to be a part of the Leewards Squad that will play at the Ronald Webster Park against the Windwards on the 15th of October. The selected fourteen will stay together, in St. Kitts, until the 9th before they travel to play on the 11th in Antigua.
