Mail delivers ton on opening day of Sydney grade limited-overs comp
Rick Eyre - 8 October 2000

Opening day of the 2000-01 Sydney Cricket Association Limited-Overs Competition saw three century-makers in action.

Mathew Daykin scored 113 in the only 300-plus total of the day as Northern District reached 5/312 before claiming victory over Fairfield by 88 runs. Musmal Khawaja scored 108 for Petersham in their loss to Campbelltown, while NSW opener Greg Mail delivered 112 runs for Balmain in their victory over Sydney University.

Most successful bowler of the day was Eastern Suburbs' Greg Matthews, who took 4/21 from his ten overs as his side claimed an 18-run victory over Penrith.

Rodney Davison capped off an outstanding weekend with the bat. Following his 168 not out in his first grade game on Saturday, the left-handed opener scored 85 in a losing cause as Sydney Uni failed by four runs to overhaul Balmain's total of 223.

It was a good day for Parramatta wicketkeeper Kristian Griffiths-Jones, who took three stumpings as well as one catch as part of a 60-run victory over Uni of NSW.

Western Suburbs and Campbelltown both scored victories in the final possible over of the game.

Round two of the limited-overs competition will be held on Saturday October 21, and will double up as round two of the first grade premiership.
