Rick Eyre - 8 October 2000

Michelle Goszko got the first weekend of the 2000-01 Sydney women's first grade season off to a dashing start today with a blazing 154 for Bankstown against Gordon. The Australian international right-handed batsman, who turned 23 yesterday, outscored her opposition's entire team total today at Bert Oldfield Park. Chasing Bankstown's 4/305, Gordon were dismissed for 135 to lose by 170 runs.

The other match of the first round saw defending premiers Balmain easily despatch Berala at Princes Road. Australian opener Lisa Keightley (106*) and NSW wicketkeeper Leonie Coleman (127) scored centuries as the Tigers were too good by the margin of 113 runs.

Mosman, promoted to first grade this season at the expense of Sutherland, had the bye this week. The women's grade competition is being conducted by the Sydney Cricket Association this year for the first time under a two-year trial.
