Hyderabad force Kerala to follow-on
Sankhya Krishnan - 9 October 2000

Hyderabad were in a commanding position on the second day of their Cooch Behar Trophy Under-19 game against Kerala at the Gymkhana Ground in Secunderabad today. The visitors, after being forced to follow-on, were still 210 runs adrift with eight second innings wickets in hand.

On a day which saw the fall of 14 wickets, Hyderabad resumed at 345/3. Teenage sensation Ambati Rayudu was stumped for 31 off leftarm spinner Aneesh, who also bowled Abhinav Kumar for six. The home team batted for 13.3 overs today before declaring on 405/5. Aneesh was by far the best bowler in the Kerala attack with pickings of 4/117.

The most fruitful partnership of the Kerala innings was the 33-run opening stand between R Kapil and S Mithun. But wickets then fell at regular intervals as Kerala folded up for 149 in 61.1 overs, NJ John top scoring with 40. For Hyderabad skipper Arjun Yadav, S Shankar and TA Sharif all claimed three wickets apiece.

Following on, Kapil and wicketkeeper Nathani were out for the second time in the day, both to opening bowler Quadri. Skipper Vipin Lal (14) and K Rejas (12) held out until stumps as Kerala finished at 46/2 in 12 overs of batting.
