Denis Lindsay Confirmed as ICC Match Referee for Sharjah Coca Cola Trophy

Former South African wicketkeeper Denis Lindsay has been confirmed as the ICC referee for the Coca-Cola Trophy tournament in Sharjah later this month.

It will be Lindsay's first official appointment since being elected to the ICC panel in May of this year. The triangular tournament involves India, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe and includes seven matches from the 20th to 29th October.

The ICC umpires for Sharjah are George Sharp (England), Steve Dunne (NZ) and Daryl Harper from Australia.

Denis Lindsay, 61, succeeded former Test skipper Peter Van de Merwe as one of South Africa's two ICC match referees. He attended the ICC Knockout Trophy in Kenya to gain experience of the position before officiating in Sharjah.

As a player Lindsay was capped 19 times by South Africa between 1963/4 and 1969/70. He is best remembered for a record breaking series against Australia in 1966/67, when he took 24 catches and made 606 runs with three centuries at an average of more than 86.

Overall in Test cricket he made 59 dismissals and scored 1,130 runs at an 37.66, with three centuries, five 50s and a highest score of 182.

Lindsay has retained his links with the game as a schools coach in South Africa and was coach to the country's under 15 side that played in the World Challenge series in England in July and August this year.
