Vidyuth wrests first innings lead for Tamil Nadu Sankhya Krishnan - 10 October 2000
A splendid spell of 7/102 by Tamil Nadu skipper S Vidyuth saw the home team grab first innings points against Andhra in their South Zone Cooch Behar Trophy Under-19 game at the Guru Nanak College ground in Chennai today. The five points gained helped Tamil Nadu to 13 points from four games while Andhra took home three points to lift their tally to 19 from the same number of games. Resuming on 69/1, Andhra lost three wickets in the space of 24 runs to Vidyuth, slipping from 93/1 to 117/4. Andhra skipper Venugopala Rao, Vidyuth's colleague during the Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka, made a gallant hundred but when he was seventh out at 274 to seamer L Balaji for 103 (159 balls, 11 fours, 1 six), the battle for the first innings lead had effectively been decided. Andhra were bowled out for 309 in the 118th over, 47 runs behind Tamil Nadu, and fittingly enough it was Vidyuth who completed the formalities.
