Vidyuth restricts Hyderabad but Tamil Nadu lose initiative Natarajan Sriram - 14 October 2000
Tamil Nadu ended the first day at 24 for 2 after Tamil Nadu captain and left arm spinner Vidyuth Sivaramakrishnan (6 for 78) ran through the Hyderabad line up to restrict them to 216 in their Cooch Behar Trophy (Under-19) tournament match at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad on Saturday. Electing to bat, Hyderabad made a steady start with openers T Suman (9) and Shashank Nag (20) putting on 31 runs off 9.1 overs. Suman, who has been in fine form in the competition was the first to be dismissed, being bowled by Vidyuth. Shashank followed him soon after caught by G Vignesh off Vidyuth. Six balls later new batsman Arjun departed, caught by Sridhar off Satish. Ibrahim Khaleel (41) and Ambhati Rayudu (66) steadied Hyderabad with a 87-run fourth wicket partnership from 29 overs. Ibrahim, who faced 92 balls and hit six fours, gave a catch to Sridhar off L Balaji. Abinav Kumar (1) did not last long and was caught by Haroon off Vidyuth. Then Ahmed Quadri joined Rayudu to take the score on to 178. The next to come in, Nadeemuddin lasted just two overs before becoming Vidyuth's victim. Seven balls later, Rayudu was finally dismissed, giving a catch to Vignesh off Vidyuth. He faced 168 balls and hit seven fours and a six. The Hyderabad innings folded up soon thereafter. Tamil Nadu, in reply, were off to a disastrous start. With only two runs on the board in the second over, D Kartik (0) was snared by Arjun off Ahmed Quadri, who in his next over had Kuduvala (0) caught by Suman to leave Tamil Nadu at 11 for 2 in the fourth over. Vasudeva Das (21) and Sridhar (0) prevented any further mishaps and came through unbeaten at stumps.
