Johnson century drives BET on Ancille Inniss - 15 October 2000
Cable & Wireless BET 296-6 vs Wanderers A brilliant century by Cable & Wireless BET captain Brian Johnson allowed the home team to make the best of the good weather conditions to amass a healthy score yesterday. Johnson blazed 105, and Adrian Brathwaite (78 not out) and Anthony Morris (51 not out) ensured BET batted all day on a pitch that was affected by rain. Johnson, batting at No. 3 ventured to the pitch to face the third delivery of the innings, when opener Ron Bates went for a duck caught at mid-off in fast bowler Irwin Armstrong’s second delivery. However, the captain did not let that deter him; he played positively off the back foot mainly for his ten fours and three sixes in his 101 balls innings. Shortly after reaching his milestone, he was caught at cover. Wanderers used six bow-lers on this placid pitch; but with Johnson on the attack, the bowling looked ragged. Soon would bring themselves back into contention with Johnson back in the pavilion. Three runs later, Sean Armstrong had Don O’Neal caught and bowled and Dane Coppin leg-before. It meant that Brathwaite and Morris would have to repair the damage and the pair did not take long in doing so. Morris was quickly off the mark with an edge to the third man boundary and from then on he showed his intentions, launching the attack. Brathwaite mixed patience with his innings while he struck 11 fours and Morris six fours, to compile an unbeaten 132 seventh-wicket partnership. Off-spinner Edwards and medium-pacer Sean Armstrong both took two wickets. There was limited play in the other four matches.
