Burki says PCB can order inquiry on its own 17 October 2000
Islamabad, Oct 16: Pakistan Cricket Board is an independent authority which should act on its own regarding any issue including match-fixing and betting. This was stated by Javed Burki, former chairman ad hoc committee Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan while talking to Dawn. "My understanding has been that the board does not require to go the President to order an inquiry into match-fixing etc. it should act on its own," Burki said. The former PCB advisor further said that it has been his view that the board should act in private instead of declaring everything in public and take action against those involved quitely. The former official said that during his tenure action was taken quitely when it was established that Salim Malik was involved in wrongdoing but later he was brought back by people with vested interests. He said, it was an irony that cricketers who have come out against those involved in malpractices have instead being sidelined and their careers have come to an abrupt end.
