Sebastianites through to final after NCC collapse
Charlie Austin - 17 October 2000

Sebastianites cruised through to the final of the Under 23 Division One Tournament after an early morning collapse by NCC at Maitland Place today. Sebastianites, who had surrendered a lead of 24 runs after the first innings, bowled out NCC for just 103 runs in their second innings. Needing 129 for victory, they eventually won the match by eight wickets.

Beginning the day of 46 for the loss of three wickets NCC collapsed in dramatic fashion in the morning session. Dinusha Fernando, the tall right arm fast bowler, cut through the Nondescripts middle order, taking the first three wickets to fall. Finishing the innings with four wickets for 35 runs he claimed the key wicket of Pradeep Hewage, the Nondescripts captain.

In reply, the Sebatianites batsmen were rarely troubled and reached the victory target in 34 overs. Fernando was dismissed early on for 9 but thereafter, Peiris (39) and Prasana Jayawardene (56), took control of the NCC bowling attack.

Sebastianites will now face Panadura SC in the final, which is scheduled to be played on Friday at the Sinhalese Sports Club.
