Athey resigns as Worcestershire coach
Staff and Agencies - 17 October 2000
Bill Athey has resigned as coach of Worcestershire after three years in the role.
The 43 year-old former England opener announced his decision was taken as a result of the club's disappointing season. Worcestershire failed to win promotion in the County Championship, and were relegated from the top division of the National League.
"It has been a disappointing season," commented Athey, "and no-one is more disappointed than I am. I have therefore decided to resign."
