Tendulkar overhauls Azharuddin's record tally of runs in one-day Internationals Rajneesh Gupta - 18 October 2000
Little master Sachin Tendulkar became the leading run scorer in the one-day internationals during his innings of 69 against New Zealand at Nairobi Gymkhana in the final of ICC Knock Out. He overhauled fellow Indian Mohammad Azharuddin's record tally of 9372 runs. A comparitive study of these two batsmen reveals the fact that Tendulkar has always enjoyed a distinct edge over Azharuddin. Tendulkar reached every progressive milestone of 1000 runs in lesser matches than Azharuddin. Infact he took 81 matches and 62 innings lesser than Azharuddin to improve upon his aggregate. Had 'Tendalya' played in as many one-day internationals as Azharuddin has played, so far 334, he would have aggregated nearly about 12,000 runs as worked out by a computerised projection of his level of performance. Further, Tendulkar has scored 25 hundreds as against Azhar's 7.
