Dawn Team for first one-dayer named
19 October 2000

Karachi, Nov 18: Pakistan recalled Mushtaq Ahmad and Shahid Afridi for the first one-day international against England to be played under floodlights here at the National Stadium on Oct 24.

Also coming back in the team was off-spinner Shoaib Malik. The trio have replaced middle-order batsman Ijaz Ahmad and finger spinner Arshad Khan who were in the 14-man squad for the ICC Knockout tournament.

Chairman of selectors Wasim Bari conceded that Ijaz had a good recent performance but was not being considered because it was felt that an allrounder was needed on top of the order. "Besides, he is an excellent allrounder."

Shahid stages a come back after being ignored for the Kenya tournament on disciplinary grounds. Mushtaq Ahmad was not considered for the Kenya tour when he was dropped after the Singapore triangular without being played in any of the three games.

Wasim Bari said the team was only for the first match.

The team is:

Moin Khan (captain), Inzamam-ul-Haq (vice-captain), Saeed Anwar, Imran Nazir, Salim Elahi, Faisal Iqbal, Yousuf Youhana, Shahid Afridi, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Abdur Razzaq, Azhar Mahmood, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmad and Shoaib Malik.
