Pakistan annouce their squad for first one-day international against England
Staff and Agencies - 19 October 2000

Pakistan have announced their squad for the first one-day international against England.

There are several changes to the side that played in the ICC KnockOut, perhaps the most controversial being the omission of Ijaz Ahmed.

Chairman of selectors Wasim Bari explained: "It's true that he has performed well in recent matches but we needed an allrounder in the middle order."

A disappointed Ijaz sounded determined to win his place back. "The axe always falls on me," he remarked, "but I have a history of comebacks and I will fight my way back into the team."

Shahid Afridi wins a recall, and off-spinner Arshad Khan makes way for Mushtaq Ahmed and Shoaib Malik.

The squad in full is:

Moin Khan (capt), Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, Imran Nazir, Salim Elahi, Faisal Iqbal, Yousuf Youhana, Shahid Afridi, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Abdur Razzaq, Azhar Mahmood, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed, Shoaib Malik.
