Trescothick happy with good start Staff and Agencies - 21 October 2000
Marcus Trescothick was delighted with both his individual and the team performance following England's victory in their warm-up game against the Governor's XI in Karachi. "Even though we got 320-odd, the wicket was good enough and the outfield fast enough to get scores like that," explained Trescothick. The Somerset man believed the enormity of the England score had implications for the rest of their tour, particularly the team's mental approach. "It is something we're going to have to look at when we bat second in the one-day internationals. We must believe that we can win games even though we're chasing 300-plus. "The wicket was very, very good -- it was made for batting. I think the entire time I was out there, only one ball moved off the straight when it moved off the seam slightly." "I was pleased with myself because I played pretty well. We haven't had that much practice apart from nets and I wanted to get into the middle and spend a little time there because I'm a little short of it at the moment." Trescothick was especially pleased to have coped well in the hot conditions. "Getting a century means a little bit more over here because it's so hot and you have to cope with those conditions," he explained. "Back in England it's not as warm and you feel as if you can go on and score big 150s in one-day games." "It is going to be tough because it's so hot but we've trained hard enough over the last couple of weeks to get these sort of results." England are likely to be given Saturday off, before preparing for the last warm-up game, on Sunday, against Pakistan A.
