Durham sign Scottish paceman Durham CCC Press Release - 20 October 2000
Durham have signed a two year contract with Scottish fast bowler James Brinkley. The 26 year old began his career with Worcestershire before joining Herefordshire. He has played for Scotland for the past three seasons and was recommended to Durham by Mike Hendrick the Scottish bowling coach. James is also a right hand bat and played at the Riverside for Scotland against Pakistan in last season's World Cup group match. He was born in Scotland but brought up in Western Australia where he went to the same school as Durham’s overseas player Simon Katich. Geoff Cook, Director of Cricket said "We are delighted to sign James who is committed to resurrecting his First Class career and to making a major contribution to Durham's quest for promotion. We have been seeking a replacement for Melvyn Betts and James fits the bill perfectly." Durham is still in negotiation with other players for the 2001 season. © Durham CCC
