Australia's leading players, coaches and administrators will all gather on the Sunshine Coast next week to plot the build-up to the international season.
The Australian Cricket Board's (ACB) 25 contracted players will be joined by New South Wales' Brad Haddin, Ryan Campbell of Western Australia and Wade Seccombe of Queensland for a five-day gathering at Mooloolaba, north of Brisbane.
Also present will be specialist coaches including Rod Marsh and Dennis Lillee, as well as coaches from the six first-class states, the national selectors, the Australian team management and senior managers from the ACB, including Chief Executive Malcolm Speed.
The training camp will see the players prepare for the upcoming Ansett Australia Test Series against the West Indies and the Carlton Series against the West Indies and Zimbabwe.
The gathering will also feature briefings from ACB management and Tim May of the Australian Cricketers' Association.
Australian coach John Buchanan said one of the key purposes was to work towards continuity in the game in this country.
"It is an ideal opportunity for all our top players, coaches and management to look at how we play cricket in both the one-day and Test match formats and develop what might be called an Australian style and method of play.
"With everyone involved in this process, we can walk away at the end of the week all working towards the same goals and the ideas we come up with can also be developed over the next few years," he said.
Buchanan also explained the inclusion of the non-contracted players - Haddin, Campbell and Seccombe - at the camp when he added: "We only have one 'keeper in Adam Gilchrist on our list of contracted players.
"It is important that we introduce players who could fill in and maybe even ultimately take over from Adam as it gives us a sense of the resources we have, and it allows them to get used to being around our elite players.
"And on a practical level, the players will be breaking into four groups for the fielding sessions, so we need four 'keepers."
The Ansett Australia Test Series begins at The Gabba, Brisbane, on 23 November, and also includes matches in Perth (1 - 5 December), Adelaide (15 - 19 December), Melbourne (26 - 30 December) & Sydney (2 - 6 January 2001).
The Carlton Series starts on 11 January, and concludes with a finals series in Melbourne (7 February) & Sydney (9 February &, if required, 11 February).
