2nd Match, Champions Trophy, SL v Zim, Statistical Highlights Rajneesh Gupta - 25 October 2000
It was the 1642nd ODI in cricket history. It was Sri Lanka’s 333rd and Zimbabwe’s 162nd ODI. It was the 22nd match between the two sides. The record now reads : Sri Lanka 16, Zimbabwe 5, abandoned one. Umpires Daryl Harper and George Sharp were officiating in their 37th and 19th match respectively. Andy Flower was playing his 150th match. He became the first Zimbabwean and 45th player overall to do so. Interestingly Flower has played all his one-day matches at a trot since debut. Mark Vermeulen was making his ODI debut. He became the 61st player to represent Zimbabwe in the shorter version of the game. The catch of Marillier was the 100th for Romesh Kaluwitharana as wicket- keeper. He became the first Sri Lankan and 11th the keeper in ODI history to do so. Andy Flower made his second ODI hundred. Interestingly Flower had scored his maiden hundred in his debut match also against Sri Lanka at New Plymouth on 23-02-1992. He thus played 148 matches in between without ever reaching three figure mark. This is a new ODI record of most consecutive matches between two hundreds. The previous record was held by India's Mohammed Azharuddin who scored his third hundred after a gap of 146 matches. Flower's innings is also the highest by a Zimbabwean in Sharjah. This obliterates the previous highest of 95 which also came off Flower's bat also against Sri Lanka on 10-11-1998. Flower's innings is the second highest for Zimbabwe in a day-night match. The highest is still held by Grant Flower - 140 (in 125 balls) against Kenya at Dhaka on 27-03-1999. Overall it was the fourth hundred in a day-night match for Zimbabwe. The fifth wicket unbroken partnership of 153 runs between Andy Flower and Dirk Viljoen is Zimbabwe’s best for this wicket against Sri Lanka. This expunges the previous stand of 145 runs (unbroken) between Andy Flower and Andrew Waller at New Plymouth on 23-02-1992. The partnership is also the second best for Zimbabwe for fifth wicket in all matches after the 186 runs unbroken stand between Murray Goodwin and Grant Flower against West Indies at Chester-le-Street on 16-07-2000. This partnership is also the highest for the fifth wicket for any side in all matches at Sharjah. The previous best was 119 between Jimmy Adams and Keith Arthurton for West Indies against Pakistan on 29-10-1993. The second wicket partnership of 157 runs between Sanath Jayasuriya and Marvan Atapattu is Sri Lanka’s best for this wicket position against Zimbabwe putting into shade the 119 run-partnership between Roshan Mahanama and Sanjeewa Ranatunga at Harare on 03-11-1994. The partnership is also the second highest for Sri Lanka for any wicket against Zimbabwe after the third wicket partnership of 172 runs between Aravinda de Silva and Asanka Gurusinha at Colombo SSC on 21-02-1996. The Man of the Match award was eighth for Andy Flower. © CricInfo
