Lahore start brought forward by two hours Staff and Agencies - 26 October 2000
The second day-night international between England and Pakistan has been brought forward by two hours to reduce the number of disruptions caused by the excessive dew in the outfield. Nasser Hussain gave his agreeement to a request from match referee Barry Jarman after an inspection of the conditions at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore ahead of the match there tomorrow. Instead of the scheduled 2pm start, the second one-day international in the series will now start at 12 noon local time, 7am Greenwich Mean Time. In Karachi on Tuesday, there were repeated disruptions while Pakistan's players attempted to dry the ball after it had been in contact with the soaked outfield and after a close survey of the Lahore pitch, it was agreed that heavy dew could again pose problems tomorrow. Hussain's ankle was also surveyed during the visit to the ground for practise today and the England captain is expected to be fit to play. "I had treatment yesterday on it and it feels alright, but you never know until you practice fully on it," he explained. "There aren't many places I can hide fielding at backward point and batting at number three. "I would say I'm about 80% fit at this stage and it is sore, but I haven't had chance to test it. I'm presuming I'll be fit because it usually takes a lot more than this for me to miss a game for England."
