ICA suspended, ad hoc body named 27 October 2000
PCB on Thursday suspended Islamabad Cricket Association and appointed a ad hoc committee with Dr Mansoor Ahmed as its chairman. The mandate of the ad hoc committee will be to run the cricketing affairs, solve the existing cribs between two factions, until election schedule is announced by the cricket board. Chairman PCB Lt-Gen Tauqir Zia said that there were too many complaints against the association officials and the standard of the game had gone down due to the on-going cribbing between the two rival groups. Dr Mansoor Ahmed, the director general sports Khan Research Laboratories who has received two high civil awards -Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Hilal-i-Imtiaz on technical capabilities in 22 years of service at KRL and 18 years in Atomic Energy Commission, will choose his committee members. The highlight of Dr Mansoor's credentials as a cricket organizer is the KRL stadium, one of the best maintained facility which has already hosted side games for full fledge South African, Australian, West Indies, Sri Lankan Test sides. Meanwhile, the announcement of ad hoc committee has been received with skeptism by the pro-ICA officials who maintained that instead of asking the association to explain the situation, the board had acted arbitrarily. It was stated that the committee can only be appointed if the PCB constitution is violated, derogatory attitude of the ICA officials and financial irregularities, whereas none of these had happened. Islamabad is a associate member of PCB, its full membership requests have been denied several times since the board is required to amend its constitution to do so. Islamabad has a special status which is at par with a province. © Dawn
