Moody declares interest in New Road coaching job Staff and Agencies - 27 October 2000
Tom Moody could return to Worcestershire in 2001 but this time as coach after the former skipper declared his interest in the vacant position at New Road. Last week incumbent coach Bill Athey resigned and within days, his predecessor Dave Houghton, who stood down as Zimbabwe coach earlier this year, contacted the Club to offer his services for the second time round after a four year stint up to 1997. Now Australian all-rounder Moody, who spent eight seasons at New Road but who has limited coaching experience, has announced that he too intends to apply for the post. A member of Australia's 1999 World Cup-winning side, Moody joined Worcestershire from Warwickshire in 1991 and replaced Tim Curtis as skipper mid-way through the 1995 season. Worcestershire chairman John Elliott confirmed: "One or two names have been put forward and Tom Moody has expressed a wish to come here. "He's been in touch with the club and so has David Houghton. We are going to have a discussion on the general principles of what we want. "We have to decide whether to advertise the post, whether to head-hunt or be happy to make a choice from Moody or Houghton. "We maybe could go looking down the line of a cricket director or cricket manager who is totally in charge of all cricketing matters and then he just reports to a management board on his ideas. "At the moment we are just having discussions and meetings on what we really want for next year." © CricInfo Ltd
