SSC on top as Dilhara Fernando picks up five wickets
Leonard Ratnayake - 28 October 2000

Right arm fast bowler, Dilhara Fernando, ripped through the Moors Innings to claim five wickets, as they were restricted to 210 runs in 49.4 overs against Sinhalese Sport Club (SSC) in their limited over match at Maitland Place.

Fernando finished with figures of 5 for 32 in 8.4 overs. Electing to bat first, the Moors openers started steadily before Dilshan Witharana was caught at extra cover in the 13th over for 18 runs with the total on 42.

Moors skipper, Rasika Priyadarshana, was almost dismissed to the last ball of the same over, the ball dropping inches short of Tilan Samaraweera at cover point.

Fernando’s picked up his first wicket in his third over, when he had opening batsmen, Heshan Tillerkeratne, caught behind for 21. Then, Bathiya Perera (19) joined Priyadarshana for the only notable partnership of the innings. The pair added 41 runs for the third wicket before Priyadarshana departed for 29.

Nilantha Cooray, who started the season in excellent form, was once again the top scorer for Moors when he made 49 runs.

Tilan samaraweera took two wickets for 28 with his off-spinners as Moors were bowled out for 210.

SSC have been penalised for a slow overate and will have to chase the target in 49 overs.
