The second day of Hampshire inter-club practise match was played under beautiful blue skies, and not beset by the unexpected rainfall of the previous day. Will Kendall's side declared at their overnight tally of 249-6.

John Stephenson and Jason Laney opened against the seam attack of Alan Mullally and James Hamblin. Stephenson was content to play a long innings, just picking the odd bad ball. Mullally bowled very tightly throughout the day, and was unfortunate not to take several wickets. Laney went first in a mix-up saw him run out for 13. Robin Smith looking for runs to kick start his season, batted with patience, striking five boundaries before becoming the first of Sean Udal's five wickets, Smith was out for 29.

Adrian Aymes was run out for the third time on tour for 23, and finally after a stay of over 3 hours (177 balls) John Stephenson fell when he pulled Udal and was caught by Kendall at mid-off.

At tea, Robin Smith declared the innings closed at 183-9 conceding a 66 run lead. Udal took 5 for 64 bowling intelligently taking advantage of the cross breeze coming over the mountain range. James Hamblin looked a much improved bowler having spent the winter in South Africa under Jimmy Cook's guidance and followed his previous day's 40* with 2 wickets.

With 27 overs of the day left, Will Kendall's XI lost three cheap wickets, looking to extend their lead. Simon Francis comprehensively bowled Sexton for 8, Giles White drove the first ball he received from Irfen Shah, and Will Kendall succumbed first ball for Francis. Laurence Prittipaul and Shaun Udal steadied the boat, and by close Prittipaul had stroked a well-formed 45 not out, and Udal 16, to take a lead of 178 into the final day.
